Recollections...
Let's see...what do I remember from the Relay?
I'll start with when I got home and work my way backwards.
Once I got home, I logged on AIM because I was curious who would go immediately online. And that would be Geo, who was online an hour before me because I hadn't prearranged a ride, and when I did arrange a ride, I also had my mom drop off three other team members. Thanks mom! Oh, and we stopped at McDonalds for some food. Eh, crappy food the morning after an all-nighter spent walking, running, racing, throwing, and catching never sustained me well. Thus, when I got home, after I logged on to the computer and set myself Away, I fell asleep. Even though I was trying not to fall asleep. Anyway, I dreamt that I snuck into a complex and shot down two humongous bipedal frogs with a Colt Commando rifle. For some reason, Jeff took offense at this and challenged me to a duel and gave me an intersection I was supposed to meet him at. I had no idea where the hell this intersection was. Dan helpfully told me what direction it was. Then I woke up, and my muscles felt like shit. I think they felt like that before, but the euphoria of being sleepless numbed it all. And the sunlight.
Relay. Sunlight. That's right...near the end, my strength was flagging, but I found succor in the sunlight...I thought it was amazing. It was like superman...without the Earth's yellow sun, he would be nothing! I got kind of hyper, especially in regards to a beach ball we found. I kicked it around. I think others were somewhat annoyed at my activity while we waited for our rides. That beach ball was my friend...and I left him there at school. Oh well.
Back to Relay - the last hour or so, I walked some more, took pictures with friends on the bleachers, listened in on Truth or Dare (which wasn't really making any sense because everyone was dead tired...but it was funny anyway) and took more pictures. At one point, I participated in the 4:00AM mile run...I suppose the 4 o' clock mile was at 4 o clock. It was 4 laps around the track. Yeah, right. I dropped out at one and a half laps due to tiredness. I should work on my endurance. Basically all I'm good for is sprinting. Which reminds me, I'm gonna jog or run at 9:00 today... in about 20 min.
We spent a lot of time procuring pizzas. First, we filled out a quiz and got three questions wrong. I don't know how many it was out of. Anyhow, the second pizza we got by bringing in a bag of trash. And the last three pizzas we got through Yao's incredible pizza whoring. He says they were giving them out, but what he really did was questionable. After all, he did mention doing "other things that [he] cannot repeat..." on his xanga. I don't really want to know. We ended up eating all of the first two pizzas, and half of the last three. So that makes 3.5 pizzas. I think we could have eaten all 40 slices (5*8 pieces) of pizza if we really tried. That would have been only about 4 slices per person.
In the beginning, Yaz set a record of walking for three hours straight. She reportedly said, "my feet are numb." I assume that means her feet were numb. That was heroic, and every step was fighting cancer...somehow. How the hell does walking fight cancer? What the fow. I don't understand how this system works. Anyway, Yaz was good at it. Later, her time record was overtaken by an ambitious Dan, Thompson, and Serene. I don't know how long they walked, but they moved at a glacial pace. I'm betting they actually covered less distance. They walked like old people. Really, really old people. Like dead people. If dead people walked. Then when they were done (near the end) I took up walking, walked a lap by myself, and then Geo joined me for a time, and we investigated the 4:00 mile. Then I'm not sure what happened.
There was a large commotion about finding Serene's ass on a pic on my camera. I still presumably have that pic, although I lost the camera. I hope it's not at my cousin's house. Toni was forcing Olivia to fondle her. At least, that's what it looked like. Once again, I have evidence.
We played catch and 500 a few times with these great free pill things. I shall explain. We looted large foam pills and amazing compressible frisbees from a walmart or walgreens stand. There were also pouches with hygienic swabs tucked away inside. Nevertheless, only one or two was opened in our group, not to mention the whole Relay. I and many others were in bad need of a shower by the end.
During the wee hours of the morning (the godforsaken sunless morning) when Dan and Thompson "lost" their minds (I have doubt they ever had that piece of equipment) we decided to make fashion statements. Well, Dan and Thompson did - Dan wore a flower in his ear and Thompson wore a ladybug sun visor. I got no pictures of that. Meanwhile, they told me I was just being weird when I wore a glowy thing on my nose and around my neck. Dan lost his flower in a race with George and me, but found another and gave it to Thompson. Dan stole that flower from a Luminaria dedicated to a deceased cancer patient. What a bastard. I'm not sure if I'm talking about Dan for stealing it in the first place, Thompson for wearing it even though he knew where it came from, Thompson again for wearing it in the first place, or me for laughing at the whole thing and taking a picture.
Yeah, that was verbatim from my photo-aided post.
Damnit, it's 9:00 now. I'm gonna have to set back that running/jogging thing again. 9:30 or 10:00 - and I still have to do chores and stuff. I realize I've been writing this for over half an hour. Anyhow, back to the writing...
Argh, I'm not in any group pics, only ones I took of myself! That makes me feel unloved...
We got ahold of some balloons and Thompson transformed into the Balloon Bitch. Then we proceeded to uselessly fill up a lot of balloons and toss them about.
I realize everything in this post is hopelessly out of order. Oh well.
At the very beginning of Relay for Life, I set up my own little 1 person tent (it actually accommodates two people, but I didn't want that known) and watched as the rest of them set up their 10 person tent. That was...let's just say that they don't have much experience with that thing. At the end, I took down my own tent, shook it out, and put it away. Theirs got taken down and put away. With the water and stuff still all over it. I hope someone put it out to dry later on, otherwise it gets moldy and mold eats away at the tent fabric and the waterproofing...which, I now remember, the tent didn't have. *sigh*
Little notes that I forgot to mention:
-Gatorade really revitalizes you faster than water, although I hate the taste. It's like drinking pure sweat, with the saltiness artificially covered up.
-I believe the grass became exceedingly disgusting, what with everyone using it as a napkin for their greasy, dirty hands.
-There was a lot of massaging going on...at the Chiropractic center and everywhere else. And it was always a girl giving a guy a massage. The feminist in me calls the guys bastards. The rest of me says, "I wish I had a girlfriend to do that for me." And then the feminist starts bitching. I stopped listening to either.
-I can fit half my wrist in my mouth. And half my fist. When I was little, I could fit my whole fist in my mouth. That was some mad skill.
-Ol' Limpy was a string of balloons that was supposed to arch over the track...but only made it halfway. Maybe if the (insert derogatory term) who set this thing up thought to put some more balloons on the thing, it would have added some grandeur...but as it was, Ol' Limpy was pretty pathetic - hence its name.
-Raising money was all stressful and stuff. I didn't do it. Preeti almost got me to go door to door, but I called my mom and she reminded me that we just don't do this sort of thing. I guess I saw going door to door as preparation for starting a business, which I still have to do. Eh well.
-Our family friends lost their grandma to malignant cancer. I went to her funeral, and I was saddened - she seemed like an amazing and kind person, and I wished I knew her better. And maybe that's what I would feel if I went to anybody else's funeral...but it's just too late, now. I should get to know more people.
-The above comment is not random because Relay for Life was raising money for cancer research. We got honorable mention for our donations - not bronze, silver, or gold medals, but honorable mention. In other words, they said, "thanks to everyone here," and we were ecstatic. The sum total for money donated that day was $150,000, the most that has ever been raised at Stevenson's track, but maybe less than has been raised elsewhere, like the circle drive. Although I might have just been facetious with that last comment.
-And this post ends at 9:26 AM, after beginning at 8:26 AM. A full hour dedicated to YOU!
That was a good ending.
End.
End already, damnit!
THE END
